Edna Bosire is a Postdoctoral researcher for the Blantyre Prevention Strategy (BPS) at Georgetown University, Center for Innovation in Global Health & College of Medicine, University of Malawi. She is also an honorary researcher at the Developmental Pathways for Health Research Unit (DPHRU), University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa.
Edna has extensive research skills and expertise in health systems strengthening in Africa, HIV/AIDS, diabetes, mental health, adolescent health and nutrition. She has over 10 years of research experience in Kenya, South Africa, and Tanzania. In South Africa, she spent 3 years conducting ethnographic research in Soweto, Johannesburg, where she investigated health and healthcare challenges and opportunities among patients with comorbid HIV and diabetes. Her recommendations aim at strengthening health system to offer integrated and patient-centered care for patients with multiple chronic diseases. She also worked as an associate researcher at DPHRU in various research projects including Transforming Adolescent Lives through Nutrition (TALENT); Healthy Life Trajectories Initiative (HELTI) and the NIH Funded Soweto Syndemics Study.
Previously, Edna worked as a research consultant for the Howard University Global Initiative South Africa (HUGISA) & FHI360 in the USAID Tulonge Afya Project in Tanzania. In Kenya, Edna worked in different non-governmental organizations (NGOs), including Drugs for Neglected Diseases (DNDi) & University of Nairobi; Africa Mental Health and Training Foundation; Population Council and FHI360.
In 2019, Edna was appointed by the Health Systems Global (HSG) as a Mentor for the Women Mentorship program, aimed at supporting young women in LMICs working on health policy and systems research.
Edna has published widely in international peer reviewed journals. She is passionate about collaborating with various stakeholders and policy makers in improving population health.
