Chimwemwe Mablekisi

Chimwemwe Mablekisi is the Director of HIV and AIDS Programmes responsible for coordination and
supervision of the programme operations of the Malawi National AIDS Commission. She coordinates
the planning, implementation and monitoring of the country’s National HIV and AIDS Response
through provision of technical and policy guidance to implementing agencies as directed by the HIV
and AIDS Policy and Strategic Plan. Her position also ensures that the necessary capacity for the
coordination structures at both national and subnational levels is strengthened. She played a critical
role in the consultations with key stakeholders including the Malawi legislators leading to the
enactment of the HIV and AIDS (Prevention and Management) Act, 2018.

A holder of master’s degree in economics, she has done a number of courses in health policy and
management. She has experience in strategic planning; project management and gender analysis;
systems strengthening and facilitation of resource mobilisation and utilisation initiatives. She has
thorough knowledge and understanding of the country’s health sector and in particular the HIV
epidemiology and social determinants and drivers of the epidemic hence able to lead and provide
technical and policy guidance to implementing and development partners in HIV prevention and
management.
