Policy and Law Initiative at the O’Neill Institute
The Center for Innovation in Global Health Policy & Law Initiative
The Center for Innovation in Global Health (CIGH) works with collaborators around the world to develop and study global health innovations and support their translation into policy and scale. This requires not only smart public health ideas and innovation, but multi-disciplinary engagement with policymakers, scientists and legal experts. Which is why we are are excited to announce a new partnership with the O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law.
A new partnership with the O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law
CIGH is expanding its footprint to the O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law at Georgetown University Law Center. Creating a bridge between the Georgetown University Medical Center and the law campus, this partnership allows for the robust engagement of Georgetown Law faculty around the translation of global health innovations into effective health policies and laws. Members of both the Schools of Medicine and Law will contribute to the development of novel approaches for improving the effectiveness of local governance for public health—from supporting enhanced data use to enable local lawmakers to address intractable structural drivers and social determinants of health, to strengthening local government structures to ensure devolution processes support local leadership of public health responses.
The partnership also tackles emerging global questions such as the intersection of digital health innovations with personal privacy, and legal and regulatory issues around the introduction of new therapeutics and vaccines. Pairing developers and innovators of new technologies with global legal and ethics experts allows for robust discussion that can inform both local decision-makers and global bodies.
